EPIPHANY: TRANSFIGURATION: WHY I AM WHO I AM

I must have been 5 years old, because I recall sharing a bedroom with my younger brother, 4 years my junior. He slept behind retractable bars in a crib. My twin-size bed was positioned parallel within whispering distance, the headboard situated under a rather large window festooned with curtains, sheer and diaphanous.

Except for a streetlight two houses down, there was no errant light around outside. Thus, if especially unsleepy, which was most every night, I would either kneel on my pillow, elbows propped on the sill---or, I could lay supine, neck hyper-extended and peer out into a magical star-speckled sky, drawing pictures by connecting the twinkling dots. The comforting chorus of nocturnal creatures, concealed amidst the phantasmagorical landscape, enchanted my eardrums--a drone, an incessant, yet soothing night-music lullaby, coaxed me to sleep, drifting out beyond the stars.

On one of those star-trek nights, cast adrift in the Orphic Realm, my bed transformed into an interplanetary craft and I experienced one of the first of many to follow OBEs. Except this was an epiphany---though, at the time, my young, imaginative mind construed the numinous event like something akin to Dorothy being whisked away to the Land of Oz.

It was an angelic visitation in technicolor splendor, broadcast in high definition widescreen. In short, I witnessed an avatar of a previous martyred incarnation. Attired in a black tuxedo, arms outstretched as if crucified, the body was suspended overhead at a 45 degree declination.

The sky was refulgent, the multiverse flood-lit with glorious unified light is how I would describe it today. Yet, to the wonderment of this child, the body continued to ascend heavenward, an out of sight transfiguration, borne aloft by celestial, respendent light pixelating into millions, billions, trillions of white doves...

I haven't been the *same* since.....
